The National Eisteddfod of Wales was held in Barry in August 1968 with singers from Barry and district coming together under the baton of Clifford Bunford to form The Eisteddfod Choir. Following the Eisteddfod, Clifford set up a choral group with members of the Eisteddfod Choir - and Barry Choral Society was born.

In 2015 we decided to rebrand ourselves and the choir was renamed - Barry Community Choir. With 50 years of vocals not far over the horizon our choir has been an instrument for delivering superb music and we are very much committed to performing a wide range of song to the community of Barry and beyond.

It has been proved over and over again that singing is good for you and that the benefits of belonging to a good social group are long and far-reaching. With this in mind, if you would like to meet new people, make new friends, improve your health, and widen your horizon and SING, we would love to meet you. If you already sing then you obviously appreciate the benefits of singing.

Don’t just take our word for it – come along on any Wednesday at St John Methodist Church, Barry Island, CF62 5TR from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and try us out! We can promise you a warm welcome, NO AUDITIONS and good contemporary music. You do not have to be able to read music to join us – so don’t let that put you off taking the first step.

We are always looking for ways to foster and promote local talent, both vocal and instrumental. We can provide the “platform” for you to perform on, so don’t be afraid to ask.

On the first Wednesday of the month we enjoy refreshments and a raffle after the rehearsal.

From September 2022 we have been extremely lucky to welcome Alison Shone as our conductor. She is also a well-known singer and singing teacher. We also welcomed back Rob Lloyd, our returning accompanist, who is also a music teacher and organist.
