Barry Community Choir - About Us

Clifford Bunford

Our story: Then..

The National Eisteddfod of Wales was held in Barry in August 1968 with singers from Barry and district coming together under the baton of Clifford Bunford to form The Eisteddfod Choir. Following the Eisteddfod, Clifford set up a choral group with members of the Eisteddfod Choir – and Barry Choral Society was born.

In 2015 we decided to rebrand ourselves and the choir was renamed – Barry Community Choir.

Ali & Amy

                 ..And Now

From September 2022 we have been extremely lucky to welcome Alison Shone as our conductor. She is also a well-known singer and singing teacher. In August 2025 we welcomed Amy Reynolds as our accompanist. Amy is a professional accompanist, pianist and piano teacher. Both have a real passion for delivering good music to our local communities.

With 60 years of vocals not far over the horizon our choir has been an instrument for delivering superb music and we are very much committed to performing a wide range of song to the community of Barry and beyond.

Christmas Concert 2024
Behind-the-scenes bonding

Thinking of joining us?

We meet to sing at rehearsal every Wednesday at St John Methodist Church, Barry Island, CF62 5TR from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.

You do not have to be able to read music to join us, Ali & Amy devise other ways for us to learn our parts.

There are NO AUDITIONS before you join us.

To join, just come along on any Wednesday evening – join in the singing or just sit and listen whilst you consider whether we would be the right fit for you. No obligations! We can promise you a warm welcome, and good music.

On the first Wednesday of the month we enjoy refreshments and a raffle after the rehearsal.

Performing

We usually have two local concerts of our own a year (Spring/Summer and Christmas-time) and also sing in the community, supporting and entertaining local groups and charities.

We are always looking for ways to foster and promote local talent, both vocal and instrumental. We can provide the “platform” for you to perform on, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Use the “Events” button at the top of this screen to see details of many of our Past Events and previous performances, and to find out where you can see and hear us performing very soon.

Barry Pride 2024

Choir is good for you!

It has been proved over and over again that singing is good for you and that the benefits of belonging to a good social group are long and far-reaching. With this in mind, if you would like to meet new people, make new friends, build your confidence, improve your health, and widen your horizon and SING, we would love to meet you. If you already sing then you obviously appreciate the benefits of singing.

Don’t just take our word for it – come along on any Wednesday at St John Methodist Church, Barry Island, CF62 5TR from 7.00pm to 8.30pm and try us out!

Whichever way you choose to “sample” the Choir, you will be welcome. If the thought of stepping through a new door is putting you off, just email info@barrycommunitychoir.com or ring 07932 523 415 for an informal chat, with no obligation.
